The Cambridge University Railway Club is not just about trains, we hear from various parts of the industry and give insight to how the multi-pound railways industry operates. We have a fantastic line up of speakers during Michaelmas, guaranteed to cure your curiosity about the railways. Whether you hold a passing interest, looking to meet key players about graduate employment or just totally love trains!! Consider coming along to one of our talks. Completely free and with fascinating speakers on subjects of the utmost interest.
This term’s meetings currently include:
18th October – Stephen Haynes, Simon Ball & Colin Evans (Cam Alumni) – Colas Rail Freight – 6pm Prompt. Knox Shaw Room, Sidney Sussex College.
8th November – Graham Cross (Cam Alumni) – London Overground (Arriva) – 8.30pm, William Thatcher Room, Fitzwilliam College.
17th November – Andy Mellors – South Western Railway (First/MTR) – 8.30pm, William Thatcher Room, Fitzwilliam College.
22nd November – Dr Michèle Dix – Crossrail 2 – 6pm Prompt. Knox Shaw Room, Sidney Sussex College.
Our first event is on Wednesday 18th October at 6pm (prompt – arrive 5.55pm) with no more than three directors of Colas Rail Freight. Why three? I genuinely do not know, simply top railway folk really do enjoy meeting us! Colas Rail Freight is one of Europe’s leading rail freight and engineering companies, with a hugely successful graduate employment scheme. We shall be hearing from: Stephen Haynes – Snr. Vice President – Rail Services (engineering). Simon Ball – Freight Director – (rail freight operation of Colas with contracts for monitoring trains, construction, oil etc). Colin Evans – Excutive Director – former Cambridge graduate. Colin highlights the potential for a career in the railway industry after you study here!I really look forward to welcoming you to the Club this term, do not hesitate to get in-touch.
