Michaelmas Committee Elections Announcement
Dear all,
The Clare MCR Committee currently has positions available! We will therefore be running elections shortly to fill these. It was great to see you all getting involved in Freshers Week, and I strongly encourage those who have enjoyed there time here so far to become more involved – it’s a really fun and easy to run the events that you want to see happen.
The positions will be carried out until March/April 2017, meaning these positions are available for Masters students or others here for less than the full academic year.
The positions available are:
You’ll note that both Social Secretary positions are available. This is because Natalie has unfortunately had to step down as Social Secretary, and Costa has not yet been formally elected and therefore must apply in this cycle. Therefore we have space for at least one new member to take on the role of Social Sec – that could be you! Social Sec is one of the most fun committee positions – you get to decide the themes of our parties, decorate the MCR/Hall for themed formals, and much much more.
Descriptions for all of the committee positions are available at the end of this post.
In brief:
Social Secs decide how many Harry Potter-related events we have.
Welfare Officer keeps people happy; occasionally gets to play with puppies.
Fourth year officer reminds us that fourth years/undergrads exist.
Library Officer goes to a few meetings and provides general support to the rest of the committee.
The process for applying is:
12 – 19 October:
Nominations Open.
To be put forward for a position, simply email Richard Gunning (mcr-secretary@clare.cam.ac.uk) with your name and the position you’re after. If applying for Social Secretary, you will need the names of two other MCR members to nominate and second you. Nominations are open NOW and due before 11:59pm 19 October.
25 October:
Manifestos due
If (a) you are applying for Social Secretary or (b) your position has multiple candidates apply, you will be required to write a short manifesto about how great you’re going to be. We’ll let you know if one is required. Examples of previous manifestos are available if you look back through previous elections on the MCR website. Manifetos are due 11:59 24 October.
If you’re the only applicant for Welfare/Fourth Year/Library, you won’t need to do anything more in this time other than try to get into the good books of 50% of the MCR.
26 – 28 October:
Voting Period
Electronic voting among all MCR members will democratically decide the positions. Positions will be taken up immediately.
I strongly encourage you to have a go at the committee. It’s a great way to support College, while also being able to make happen any changes or events that you want to see.
For general information on the committee, feel free to contact me or any other current member. For general information on the process of the election, please contact Richard Gunning (mcr-secretary).
Descriptions of the positions follow below. I look forward to having you join us!

Under this wide-ranging role fall several key jobs: managing Friday formals (including implementing any fun ideas you have for themed formals!); showing our freshers how awesome Clare is by planning and managing Freshers Week events; planning and managing larger events like bops and garden parties; and liaising with Catering, including attending one meeting with the college Catering committee per term.
For more info, contact Costa Televantos (cat48), Jac Davis (jtmd2) or Dom Wolanska (dpw38) - Welfare Officer (Male)

You are a resource for the community, and should be available and approachable to people for all of their welfare needs. You also meet once per term with the UCS and College Welfare teams. Finally, you have the opportunity to organize events that benefit the mental and physical health of the MCR – events this year have included yoga, massages, and the Great Clare Bake-Off, but the opportunities are boundless!
