Cambridge University Collegium Musicum presents two semi-staged performances on period instruments of John Blow’s 17th century masterpiece, Venus and Adonis. Written for the court of King Charles II, The New Grove names it as the earliest surviving English opera. In the unique space of The Round Church, the performance will feature baroque dance, an essential addition to the legend of the lovers Venus and Adonis.

The Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra opens the CUMS 2016-17 season with a varied and exciting programme under the baton of Principal Guest Conductor, Peter Stark. Julien Cohen, CUMS Concerto Competition 2016 prize-winner, is the soloist in Schumann’s energetic Piano Concerto. This is paired with one of Vaughan Williams’ most lyrical works, the Fifth Symphony.
