Cambridge University Opera Society: ‘Short stories’, Saturday 6th February, 8pm
Jesus College Music Society is delighted to be working in collaboration with CUOS to present an exciting and daring project: three new chamber operas by student composers, performed in fully-staged productions in the beautiful and atmospheric setting of Jesus Chapel.
Featuring Stephen Bick’s A Good Man is Hard to Find, Owain Park’s The Snow Child, and Bertie Baigent’s The Nightingale and the Rose, this production presents operatic versions of short stories by Flannary O’Connor, Angela Carter, and Oscar Wilde. The relationship between literature and music lies at the heart of the production, and permeates its every aspect. Love, revenge, sacrifice, and human waste are key themes of what promises to be a beautiful yet challenging production.
Performed by some of Cambridge’s finest singers and players, directed by Gareth Mattey, and conducted by Bertie Baigent.
Tickets £7, £5 (students); available on the door, or jcms-recitals@jesus.cam.ac.uk
