   [EVENT] The Master’s retirement concert- 5th July 2014

   A message from The Master

   I am delighted that Graham Ross and the choir are putting on a special concert on 5 July 2014 to mark my retirement.

   I would like to extend a very warm personal invitation to you, your family and friends to the concert which will be held at the West Road Concert Hall on Saturday 5th July.

   The concert, which commences at 7.30pm will be given by the College Choir, supported by former singers and instrumentalists of the College, under Graham’s direction. The programme will include: Five Mystical Songs – Ralph Vaughan Williams, ‘Requiem’ (Excerpts) – Johannes Brahms, and ‘Take him, earth, for cherishing’ – Herbert Howells (the anthem Howells composed for JFK’s funeral).

   Tickets are priced at £15 (£7.00, concessions).

   [EVENT] 11th Technology Ventures Conference: Beyond the Now!

   23rd June 2014 | West Road Concert Hall | 8am-6.30pm

   The Technology Ventures Conference 2014, titled “Beyond the Now”, features 15 TED style talks from world leading entrepreneurs and technologists. Exploring the impact of technology innovation on the future of our society, the talks will be led by keynote speakers including:

Naveen Jain. Mr. Jain is the founder of three companies – Moon Express, InfoSpace, and currently Inome. He is also the  founder and CEO of the World Innovation Institute, and has an established record as a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and technology pioneer.

   Hazel Henderson, D.Sc.Hon., FRSA, is the founder of Ethical Markets Media and the creator and co-executive Producer of its TV series. She is also a world renowned futurist, evolutionary economist and the author of the Axiom and Nautilus award-winning book “Ethical Markets: Growing the Green Economy” (2006).

Dr Eric Drexler. Dr. Drexler is often described as “the founding father of nanotechnology”. He introduced this concept to the scientific community through a seminal paper in 1981 and a book-length physics-based analysis entitled “Nanosystems: Molecular Machinery, Manufacturing, and Computation”.

   The next 100 tickets will have a chance to win one of five spots for the CUTEC dinner, to be held at Trinity Hall college, that includes CUTEC members, speakers and advisors, to be held the day before the TVC.

   [EVENT] Clare Gala Day- 28th June 2014

   This year’s Clare Gala Day will take place on Saturday 28 June, at Clare, from 10am to 5:30pm.

   Following on from last year’s successful event, we will be putting on a fantastic selection of academic talks, family entertainment, garden tours and live music, to provide a great day out for everyone. You will be welcome to bring your own picnic, to enjoy in the Scholar’s Garden, or treat yourself to a fabulous lunch or afternoon tea, provided by the College’s award-winning catering team.

   [AUDITIONS] Cambridge Graduate Orchestra

   Cambridge Graduate Orchestra is pleased to announce auditions for Concerto soloists for the year 2014-2015. Please forward this message to anyone who might be interested, preferably graduate students. Auditions will take place on the 6th of July.

   Candidates are requested to prepare 15 minutes of music – ideally from the concerto they would perform if successful. CGO will not provide an accompanist, but the soloist may bring one if he/she wishes.

   [EVENT] Book event and talk- 19th June 2014

   Bestselling author and economist Ha-Joon Chang, who was recently voted among the world’s top ten thinkers in a Prospect Magazine poll, will give a talk on his recently published book “Economics: The User’s Guide”. The book is the first in the revived Pelican series – Penguin’s groundbreaking series of intelligent guides to essential topics. It address in a clear, witty and insightful way questions such as: What is economics? What can and can’t it explain about the world? Why does it matter?

   Ha-Joon Chang teaches economics at Cambridge University. His book “23 Things They Don’t Tell You About Capitalism” was a no.1 bestseller and was called by the Observer ‘a witty and timely debunking of some of the biggest myths surrounding the global economy.’ He is a popular columnist at the Guardian, and a vocal critic of the failures of our economic system.

   The event is hosted by the Cambridge Society for Economic Pluralism, and co-sponsored by the Cambridge Society for Social and Economic Development, the Institute for Manufacturing and the Cambridge Humanities Review.

   A drinks reception, book selling and book signing will follow the talk. Tickets are free, and seats are allocated on a first-come first-serve basis.

   This is an all-day live e-sports gaming event with League of Legends, StarCraft 2 and DOTA 2 games played and casted (commentated) live in front of an audience and streamed online, hosted by the Cambridge University Digital Gaming Society.
