[CONFERENCE] Africa Together conference | Cambridge Union | June 10

Dear MCR representative,

My name is Halima Hima, President of the African Society of Cambridge University (ASCU). I am writing to invite you and your MCR to the annual ‘Africa Together‘ conference, which will be held on Friday, the 10th of June, 2016 at the Cambridge University Union.

‘Africa Together’ is the largest student led conference on Africa at the University of Cambridge. Over the last three years, the ‘Africa Together’ conference has grown into a leading platform that convenes some of Africa’s best minds, policymakers, businessmen and women, scholars, students, and young professionals to discuss issues of critical importance to the continent’s future. With speakers from 15+ countries, this event promises to be one of the largest and most diverse commemorations of Africa Day in the UK.

Panel discussions will explore: the role of African voices in the telling of African narratives, the role of business as well as extractive industries in Africa’s inclusive growth, religion and development, women’s leadership, among other themes. The day will include keynote addresses as well as panel discussions, exhibitions and live performances by African artists.

• Prof. David Dunne, Director of the Cambridge-Africa Programme and Extraordinary Fellow, King’s College

• Destiny Ekaragha, Director and writer, Gone too Far, Tight Jeans – 3rd British black women who directed a feature-length film that was given theatrical distribution in the U.K
• Donald Molosi, Broadway actor writer – youngest-ever recipient of the Khama Brilliant Spirit Award
• Imad Mesdoua, political analyst for Africa Matters Limited and guest commentator for the BBC, Al Jazeera and France 24
• Tariq Ramadan, Professor, Oxford University – as one of the top 100 most influential thinkers in the world and Global Thinkers by Foreign Policy
