Welcome to a new academic year at Clare
Dear Clare students, old and new,
I would like to welcome you into a new academic year at Clare College, our 691st year. To the new students who are starting to arrive, I would like to welcome you to both Clare College and to Cambridge. I hope you are excited to be here (and are not too nervous)! We can’t wait to meet you and we have an action packed Freshers’ Week ahead to help you find your way around Clare College and Cambridge, and for you to meet your fellow grads.
To those of you who know your way around the block, come join in the Freshers’ Week activities, meet some new friends and help build and strengthen our Clare MCR community. We all know how quiet Cambridge gets over the summer, so I am sure you will all agree in saying we are looking forwards to a new year and the arrival of the new students.
Costa and Rosie along with the rest of the committee have been hard at work making sure the Freshers’ Schedule includes activities and events fit for everyone. I encourage you to attend as many events as you can, as Freshers’ Week still remains in my head one of my favourite Cambridge memories. But don’t worry if you arrive late or have clashes with departmental events. This happens every year and is one of the reasons we have packed so many amazing events in for you, so feel free to attend what fits your schedule and interests. Keep an eye out for our reminder emails and notes on any changes to events (maily caused by the weather). If you end up missing most of Freshers’ Week, do not fear as the fun doesn’t stop here. Your wonderful committee has many more events planned for you throughout the year. After Freshers’ Week the first academic term, Michaelmas, begins. We have bops, Halloween, Bridgemas (Cambridge Christmas), Clareity evenings and much much more planned. On top of that I encourage you to come to regular Friday Formals or pop in at the bar, and to use the MCR at your leisure. Lots of interesting conversions have been formed over a cup of tea or cold beverage.
Again, I would like to encourage all Clare MCR members to get in touch with the committee if you have any issues, thoughts or ideas. We will be wearing bright yellow T-shirts or name tags during Freshers’ so we will be hard to miss, but if anyone forgets who’s who, full details of the committee and a lot of other useful information can be found on our webpage, so be sure to check it out!

I would like to leave you with a few tips/thoughts for the upcoming year:
Say hello, be authentic, make mistakes, believe in yourself, help others see their potential, work hard, play hard, do your best, keep going, and remember small achievements happen every day!
Will it be easy? No. Will it be worth it? Absolutely.
