Professor Stanley is Emeritus Professor of Epithelial Biology in the University of Cambridge and in 2004 was awarded the OBE for services to Virology. She is a research scientist and her research has focussed on how the body defends itself against infections with HPV (human papillomavirus) the cause of cervical cancer in women, how to develop vaccines that prevent HPV infection as well as those that might treat HPV infection and has more than 200 publications on these topics.

[EVENT] Cambridge University Railway Club Special Debate on Railway Fares

I am delighted to announce this Friday we have a very special event on rail fares and financing which shall include several leading railway industry figures and local general election parliamentary candidates. The discussion shall give us a chance to learn where farepayers (and taxpayers) money goes in the industry and we shall be able to make more informed contributions to the upcoming political debates.

[EVENT] WHAT?: First meeting of alternative relationship styles discussion group. 22nd Jan, 8 – 10pm, Sidgwick Hall, Newnham College.

This term sees the launch of a brand new discussion group, the University of Cambridge Open Relationship and Non-monogamy Society (UniCORNS). We will be hosting open meetups with no strict agenda, for anyone interested in the theory, practicalities, and issues surrounding open relationships, non-monogamy, polyamoury, or any other member of the huge family of alternative relationship styles. Instead of speeches and question-and-answer style discussions, we’ll be hosting multiple conversations that give everyone more of a chance to engage and contribute. So if you’re already a practicing polyamorite, or if you have no idea what this bulletin is even about but want to hear more, come to one of our meetups for informal discussion and socializing.

Our first meetup is called WHAT?. We’ll be talking about what exactly alternative relationship styles are, and what the many different terms for them mean. It’ll take place on the 22nd January, 8pm, in Sidgwick Hall, Newnham. Latecomers and early leavers welcome!

*What? Delivering tutorials on a summer school in Oxford. Whilst we are eager to hear from anyone who is interested in getting involved, we are particularly eager to hear from those who study/have studied: Economics, Biological Sciences, Bio-medical Sciences, Psychology, Engineering, Politics and IR, History, English and Law.

*Who? Any enthusiastic postgraduate student or postdoc

*How big a commitment? Designing and delivering an exciting and challenging course of eight tutorials, and teaching them to small groups of bright and motivated 16-18 year old students

[EVENT] Cambridge Development Initiative Annual Launch with Sir Fazle Abed, Founder and Chairman of the World’s Largest NGO

The Cambridge Development Initiative (CDI) is having its Annual Launch with a keynote by Sir Fazle Abed, founder and chairman of BRAC, the world’s largest NGO. The event will be your opportunity to learn more about our four development projects in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and discover how you can become one of our Summer Volunteers!

Founded in January of 2013, CDI is a wholly student-led NGO at the University focussed on changing the way student volunteering is done. CDI Volunteers play an active role in our work, using their skills and backgrounds to design project activities and objectives. In Summer 2014, 30 Cambridge students participated on our pilot implementation trip.

The event will take place at 6pm on the 16th of January at the Main Chamber of the Cambridge Union. We look forward to seeing you there!
