[Research Volunteer] Bike sensors for measuring the environment: participants wanted

The students of the University of Cambridge’s degree programme for Sensor Technologies have embarked on their team challenge, which is to develop “a cyclist’s mobile sensor hub for big data citizen science”.

The project aim is to design sensors that can fit on bikes to measure the air quality, bike traffic and road surface quality experienced by the cyclist. By encouraging residents to assemble and use the easy-to-build sensors, as well as access the analysed data, this project will promote engagement with issues relating to the quality of the local environment.

We are looking for volunteers to contribute to the project by using the sensors and helping to collect data. We are planning to offer a number of free-of-charge workshops during the summer break in late July/early August and would like to involve grad students to assemble the sensors and collect/analyse some data.
