Overview
Women have traditionally faced gender-specific challenges when building a career in male-dominated professional fields or accessing higher education. Join us for a vibrant discussion of the patterns and recent changes in the impact of gender at the workplace and in academia, as well as on the role men could play in promoting gender equality in these spheres. The event will be followed by a drinks reception and networking opportunity.
Specific issues that will be discussed include: women in politics, law, technology and higher education, structural causes of gender inequality and the way forward to countering it.
Our guest speakers are:
Dr Surabhi Ranganathan is a University Lecturer in International Law, a Fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, and a Fellow and Director of Studies in Law (Parts IA & II) at King’s College, University of Cambridge. Dr Ranganathan is the author of the book _Strategically Created Treaty Conflicts and the Politics of International Law _(CUP 2014) and editor of _The Cambridge Companion to International Law _(CUP 2012).
Dr Megan Donaldson is a Junior Research Fellow at King’s College Cambridge. Dr. Donaldson has done extensive academic research on the dynamics of secrecy and publicity in particular in diplomatic relations. She has worked in corporate litigation and as an Associate to Justice Hayne of the High Court of Australia.
Lindsay Sparrow is the Associate Director at the Centre for Gender Rights. In her previous position Ms Sparrow worked for Randstad Technologies, the 2nd largest HR staffing and solutions firm in the world. At Randstad she managed technology projects and hiring of resources for over 10 Fortune 500 companies. As a woman in the technology industry she worked for gender equality within the workplace as well as the promotion of STEM careers for young girls. In 2015 she left her career to pursue a Masters of Science at King’s College London in the Political Economy of Emerging Markets.
