Welcome to a new year at Clare!
Dear all,
We’re only a few short days from the start of Clare College’s 690th year! If you’re a new student moving in then I’d like to give you a huge welcome to Clare College and to Cambridge. We have all sorts of events to help you make new friends here and to learn your way around Clare and Cambridge, which begins with pizza and drinks on Friday evening. The full schedule can be found here.
I encourage you to come to as many of these events as you can, as they include something for everyone. I remember being amazed during my Freshers Week at how easy it was to meet new people from all sorts of disciplines, countries and backgrounds, and I’m sure you’ll all have the same experience of this very unique opportunity. Please also note that the schedule has had a couple of changes since it was first uploaded, so make sure you do check the website for the correct version and keep an eye out for emails from Natalie and Costa, your amazing social secretaries.
After Freshers week, the first academic term of the year, Michaelmas, gets underway and is always filled with a huge flurry of inductions combined with a jam-packed schedule of social events, including our first Clareity evenings of the year, Halloween (one of my personal highlights of each year), bops, and more. Summer in Cambridge is can be pretty quiet, so I’m sure all of the returning scholars will agree with me in saying that we’ve been looking forward to the arrival of new students for a while.
Even though it’s going to be Clare’s 690th year, I reckon we can still make this one its best yet.
With very best wishes for the new year,
Olly McMillan
Clare College MCR President
