[AUDITIONS] FROZEN: Musicians needed for Corpus Christi MCR Pantomime

Corpus Christi MCR is recruiting musicians to play in a pit orchestra for its annual Christmas Pantomime, to be performed at Leckhampton House on Thursday 11th December. This year the Panto will be an abridged version of Disney’s ‘Frozen’, complete with songs ‘Let it Go’, ‘Do you want to build a snowman?’, ‘Love is an open door’, ‘For the First Time in Forever’, ‘In Summer’ and ‘Fixer Upper’ performed by students and staff. All woodwind, brass and strings are welcome. We particularly need electric guitar and drum kit players. We will have our first rehearsal on Sunday 7th December. [EVENT] UCCRI Interdisciplinary Conservation Graduate Group talk

Our UCCRI Interdisciplinary Conservation Graduate Group’s next exciting talk is from Jennifer Hoyal Cuthill, from the Department of Earth Sciences: ‘Environmental change and co-extinction risk in Australian crayfish and their flatworms’

Our group (http://research-institute.conservation.cam.ac.uk/student-group) was set up last year to bring together graduates from across the disciplines within the University, whose research is related to the environment and society. So far researchers have joined us from geography, land economy, social anthropology, HPS, Archaeology and Anthropology, Architecture, Plant Sciences, Zoology and Earth Sciences.

We welcome graduates from many other disciplines with conservation-related interests and we hope very much to see you at our interdisciplinary conservation talk on Friday 5th December at 12.30pm Room 206 William Hardy Building on the Downing Site

[JOB OPPORTUNITY] Seminar Assistants Wanted for Cambridge Academic Development Seminar Programme in January, February, and March 2015

Job Description: Several groups of university students from Asia will attend academic exchange seminars (each lasting about 13 or 14 days) in Cambridge in January, February, and March 2015. The programme mainly consists of academic lectures, visits, and social activities, which aims to offer students a taste of studying and living in Cambridge. The position that we are now recruiting includes part time seminar assistants, who will work with a team to accompany students during their 13 or 14 days’ stay in Cambridge. There are 7 time slots available to choose from. Successful applicants can choose any one or more than one time slot from the following:

Slot 1: 21st Jan.—3rd Feb, 2015

Slot 2: 24th Jan.—6th Feb, 2015

Slot 3: 25th Jan.—8th Feb, 2015

Slot 4: 27th Jan.—9th Feb, 2015

Slot 5: 2nd Feb.—15th Feb, 2015

Slot 6: 3rd Feb.—16th Feb, 2015

Slot 7: 1st Mar—14th Mar, 2015

The job of seminar assistants includes:

Lectures: assisting to ensure the smooth flow of the lectures, such as preparing lecture rooms, handout, and other materials that the lecturers may need; supervising students’ final presentation.

Visits: assisting to organise and accompany the visits to help students have a happy and safe tour in Cambridge, London and Oxford.

Social activities: organising and actively participating in social activities; communicating with students to help them gain a better idea of studying and living in Cambridge.

Logistics: helping with airport pickup, welcome reception, and so on.

Eligibility:

Cambridge University Members are welcome to apply.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Fluent in English.

Prior experience in event organising is preferred.

Payment: 600 pounds (base salary) + 200 pounds (bonus; depending on the feedback from students and seminar manager)

[EVENT] Cambridge Development Initiative (CDI) Annual Launch event

The Cambridge Development Initiative (CDI) is hosting it’s Annual Launch event on January 16, 2015. We’re very excited to have Sir Fazle Abed, the Founder and Chairman of BRAC – the world’s largest NGO – and recently ranked #32 on the Fortune’s Top 50 Global Leader List. There will also be two more exciting speakers to be confirmed shortly! At the Launch, we’ll be presenting CDI’s four projects in health, engineering, education, and entrepreneurship and opening applications for our Summer Volunteering scheme. This is a great way to be involved in developing a sustainable impact in Tanzania and empower changemakers globally!
