[NOTICE] Jewish New Year and events
I hope you are well. Please let me introduce myself, I am a Jewish chaplain and would like to share with you some information that may be of benefit to incoming students.
Rosh Hashana (New Year) is on 25-27 September and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) is on 3-4 October. Many graduate and international students may already arrive by next week and most freshers, many of whom will be fasting, will be expected to participate in matriculation activities on 4 October.
There will be services and events taking place at the Synagogue (3 Thompson\’s Lane) and at the Chabad House (37A Castle Street) and a full schedule can be found here.
If students need further information please feel free to put them in touch with me.
With warm regards and blessings for a happy New Year
Reuven
[EVENT] Grad Squash at the Union
On the 6th of October the Cambridge Union are holding a Grad Squash at the Union from 4pm, with live music from 7pm. It promises to be a really good event at the beginning of term and a nice way to encourage some cross college mingling.
[ADVERT] Call for Submissions – Cambridge Humanities Review
The Cambridge Humanities Review is now seeking submissions for its eighth issue, due to be released in the latter half of Michaelmas Term. The Review was launched in Easter 2012 to provide an interdisciplinary forum for writing and debate in the humanities outside of specialised academic journals and university assessment. Alongside student contributors from Cambridge and beyond, we have featured pieces by respected academics, politicians and writers, such as Rowan Williams and Maurice Glasman.
We invite reviews of prominent academic monographs, new editions and edited collections that have been recently published. We are also happy to receive essays on any topic within the arts and humanities, though we ask that students do not recycle supervision work or dissertations. Footnoting is not required, but it is requested that contributors follow the MHRA style guide as far as possible. Submissions should be challenging and detailed, however we ask that they be of interest and accessible to an audience wider than that of the writer\’s own individual discipline.
Submissions, attached in a non-pdf format, should be sent to Daniel Matore before Thursday the 23rd of October. The word count is between 1500 and 2500 words. Please include your name, college and current degree.
With best wishes,
Daniel Matore
