[EVENT] Lunchtime Concert – featuring several MCR members!
The Cambridge University Percussion Ensemble, Cambridge University Chamber Choir, and four of the university’s brilliant pianists, join forces under the baton of former CUMS Conducting Scholar and Clare College PhD student Naomi Woo. Igor Stravinsky’s Les Noces (Svadebka) is an ecstatic depiction of the sounds of a Russian wedding ritual. Rather than telling a straightforward story, the exuberant music incorporates snippets of conversation, jubilant sounds of celebration, and folk tunes in a chaotic and whirlwind display. The piece is rarely performed because of its difficulty and atypical instrumentation – four pianos, percussion, choir, and soloists – so don’t miss this chance to see it here in Cambridge, performed in the original Russian!
The concert will start at 13.10 sharp, with Peter Asimov and Toby Hession performing Maurice Ravel’s two-piano arrangement of La Valse, followed by Les Noces, and will be over before 14.00. Admission FREE. We look forw
