[Event] Michaelmas Couch to 5k programme
The University Sports Centre are launching a Michaelmas Couch to 5K programme, to support students in taking on new activities, especially when they might be more isolated than usual – this is something that’s low commitment which will have a big impact on physical and mental health, and can be taken on in bubbles.
The running programme will take you from being a complete non-runner, to successfully completing a five kilometre (or 3.1 miles) run, in just 9 weeks!
They’ve created some resources to support people through their journey, with all information at the link below.
To help keep you on track, they’ve set up a Couch to 5k at Cambridge Strava Group! So why not go and join one of their qualified virtual run leaders and online running community?
Their run leaders will start with Week 1 of the programme on Strava from Wednesday 21st October to Tuesday 27th October! The ‘Week 1’ session will be repeated throughout the week so don’t worry if you can’t start on Wednesday, just join in another day (or on multiple days, if you’d like).
The Run Leaders will then follow the programme each week until the end of the 9 weeks (22 December). The aim of the Strava Group is to help you to protect time in your diary for running, give you support and encouragement, and build a sense of community.
So, to sum up;
- Get the Couch to 5K App
- Join Strava so you can log your running, and join the Cambridge Couch to 5K virtual community for support and motivation from the University team and fellow new runners
- Sign up for each run with your virtual run leader
- Get running/walking!
If you have any questions about this please contact the team directly at: run@sport.cam.ac.uk .
