[Event] Clare Politics
It’s been a turbulent 12 months.”On the 23rd of January, Clare Politics will welcome a panel of academics and journalists to discuss the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency, one year on from his inauguration.
Our Speakers:
William Booth is the London bureau chief for The Washington Post. He has written on British-American relations, including the possibility of a President Trump state visit to the UK and the differences between Theresa May’s dealings with Russia and the White House. He has held the same role for The Post in Mexico, Los Angeles, Miami and Jerusalem.
- Molly Kiniry is a columnist at The Sunday Telegraph and prominent member of Republicans Overseas. She manages research programmes on international development at the Legatum Institute in London, a think tank central to the Brexit debate. She is a Republican of the ‘never-Trump’ variety, but her recent articles argue that Donald Trump has done more to solve the Middle East crisis than many of his predecessors, and that the President represents a third way in US politics.
- Timothy Stafford is a leading international affairs commentator and Daily Telegraph contributor. He works as Senior Fellow at the Henry Jackson Society, a right-leaning British foreign policy think tank founded by academics and students at the University of Cambridge in 2005. He has previously held posts in the parliamentary offices of Theresa May and Sir Malcolm Rifkind. His research has a particular focus on nuclear weapons.
- Dr. Aaron Rapport is a lecturer at the Department of Politics and International Relations in Cambridge. He is an expert on international security and US foreign policy, holds a PhD from the University of Minnesota and has written several books and papers on the US security.
The event will be chaired by Prof. Andrew Preston, a history fellow at Clare and specialist in modern American history and foreign relations. As ever, the event is free and open to all! Join us for a drinks reception at 20:00, with the panel beginning at 20:30.
