[Notices] Silent Auction and donations to assist in hurricane relief in the Commonwealth of Dominica
Contact: Jerelle (jaj52@cam.ac.uk)
The Commonwealth of Dominica was recently ravaged by Hurricane Maria, one of the strongest recorded hurricanes in history. Dominica was completely destroyed, and is in a critical state of emergency. An alarming percentage of people in Dominica are now homeless and it is projected that electricity will not be restored, in many parts of the island, for months.
To support relief efforts, we’ll be hosting a cocktail night (with a percentage of all drinks brought going to the fund) and silent auction Friday, October 6 at 9 PM in Churchill College Bar. All proceeds will be split between DARDA and local groups delivering aid on the ground in Dominica right now.
Items up for auction so far include copy editing a manuscript, assistance in several programming languages and tasks, a 12 month membership of TeamSnap for local sports groups, a 30 minutes sports massage by Headstart Clinics, as well as authentic Indian, Turkish, Mexican and Brazilian meals. Get in touch if you want to help by donating one of your skills (ep484@cam.ac.uk).
We’re also collecting items from the official list of urgently needed supplies, as per the Government of Dominica:
Food, Water, Roofing materials, Lumber, Plywood, Windows, Doors, Nails, Roofing screws, Generators (5kVA to 10kVA), Chainsaws with cans, oil, fuel, Communications equipment, Tarps/Plastic sheeting, Hygiene kits/Comfort kits, Medical supplies, Baby supplies (formula/baby food), Wipes, Diapers, Adult diapers, Water purification kits, Fuel, Energy biscuits, Cots, Mattresses, Portable stoves, Flashlights/batteries, Solar lanterns, Kitchen sets, Collapsible water containers (gallon).
