[JOB OPPORTUNITY] Technical mentors wanted for Open Technology for Development Make-a-thon.
The Open Technology for Development Make-a-thon brings hardware design challenges from international development and humanitarian contexts to undergraduates of various backgrounds who are challenged over the course of five days to prototype solutions using open source technologies.
Our principles are interdisciplinarity, openness and collaboration and we are welcoming applicants from all backgrounds to participate. We therefore need three mentors on hand who can:
- Provide technical assistance (aided by the Dyson Lab staff)
- Help match participants and projects or tasks that need their skills and ensure everyone is able to contribute and learn.
If you have experience with hardware prototyping using a variety of techniques and ideally some programming knowledge suited to working with Arduinos and other low-cost microprocessors and computing platforms, we’d love to hear from you.
You will need to be available for a planning meeting in early June 2016 and on 9 June for an introduction to the challenges, the kit and the fully equipped Dyson workshops at Cambridge University Engineering Department. Your main role will be during the two-day making sprint in the workshops 13-14 June. We will provide £300 in total for your time and expenses, plus refreshments during the make-a-thon days.
If this sounds of interest please send a email describing your interest in the role and a CV to Jenny Molloy jcm80@cam.ac.uk by 27 May 2016 and we will get back in touch shortly after the deadline.
