[EVENT] Introduction to Blind Tasting: Sunday 18th October
Dear all,
Some of you may already know that I run one of the wine tasting societies for Cambridge University, and we’re holding our very first introductory tasting at Clare College on the evening of Sunday 18th October. Below is an introduction of what we aim to do, and it would be wonderful to see MCR members there! Please email me if you have any queries.
The aim is to teach students how to taste wines blind (i.e. poured into your glass without seeing the bottle label). We have a comprehensive schedule for this term designed to train your noses and palates to identify the grape, country, region, and vintage of the wines poured in front of you. For those who are really keen, you can try out for the Cambridge Blind Tasting team, which competes against Oxford in the Varsity Blind Tasting competition every year in February, and holds an international reputation for training excellent tasters. Winners of the Varsity competition win a fully paid trip to the Champagne house Pol Roger in Epernay, and take part in another blind tasting competition there against a French team. The team also has opportunity to compete in international competitions including one which takes place in the cellars of Chateau Lafite in Bordeaux, which is a phenomenal once-in-a-life time opportunity. You can read more about them here:

This Sunday 18th October is our first session to introduce you to blind tasting. It will be led by Antoni Wrobel. Antoni has been training and competing in the blind tasting team since 2012, and was top taster in our competition against the French team in Pol Roger 2014. Tickets will go on sale this evening at 18.00. Please ensure you’ve created a log-in name for yourself here:
