[EVENT] Ultimate Student DJ Competition with Cam FM and Big Fish – Sunday 9th November

Think you can DJ? Prove it… At Lola Lo!!!

Cam FM and Big Fish are running Cambridge’s biggest student DJ competition this term and if you think you’ve got what it takes (or know someone who does…) then this is for you!

On Sunday November 9th we’ll be pitting the best of the best Cambridge student DJs against one another in an epic battle to the death (ok, maybe not quiet that far) to find out who will win the title of Cambridge’s greatest student DJ legend. The winner will have the opportunity to gain a residency at one of Big Fish’s nights, a Big Fish VIP card (Q jump, and free entry +1 at all big fish nights) and will receive a bottle of Vodka to enjoy with their friends for the rest of the night. Runner up will receive a Big Fish VIP card and a bottle of bubbly.

[EVENT] Cambridge Python’s v ARU Rhinos (American Football)

Cambridge University’s American Football team, the Cambridge Pythons, need you!!

We’re meeting our Cambridge rivals, the ARU Rhinos, in a pre-season scrimmage (friendly game) this Sunday 2nd November, so if you’re interested in learning more about the sport or just coming along to watch, check out the information below!

With the season kicking off in just two weeks, this is an invaluable chance to see the Pythons in action. The scrimmage will be full contact and match scenarios with time for coaching, so if you want to come along to see a game, this is your first opportunity this year.

The scrimmage is at Coldham’s Common on Sunday, with kickoff at 1pm, The team will be around from 11am for warmups and pre-game rituals, so do come along anytime from then!

[EVENT] Professor Peter Mandler: ‘The State as Patron of Humanities Research: A Historical Perspective’

The first talk in a new series ‘Lectures in the Humanities’ hosted by the Cambridge Humanities Review, Professor of Modern Cultural History Peter Mandler will speak on his recent research on the history of universities and the effects of state patronage on humanities research. Professor Mandler writes on the political, social, cultural and intellectual history of Britain since 1800. His most recent publication is Return from the Natives: How Margaret Mead Won the Second World War and Lost the Cold War. £5 year annual subscriptions to the CHR magazine will be available to purchase on the day. [SOCIETY ADVERT] Cambridge University Railway Club

I am the president of a little gem of a society within Cambridge where we meet top leading professionals of an industry employing thousands of bright graduates. It is not accountancy or law, but the love of the railways!

The Cambridge University Railway Club is the second oldest railway club in the UK, we meet weekly on either Wednesdays or Fridays to hear from directors of travel and freight operating companies as well as leading figures from Network Rail, HS2, DfT, Hitachi and several other leading railway industry players (even model trains!)

The role of meeting is to hear from these speakers about the operations of their businesses on the railways, whether this is about fare pricing, open access, intermodal freight, new line construction, day to day operation or just loving trains; we have a wide selection of speakers to hear from. Recent highlights have included DRS, HS2, Network Rail and Hitachi.

As well as speaker events, we arrange visits to railway sites around the country. Recently this has included Plasser UK and RVEL and this academic year we are looking forward to visiting Old Oak Common (First Great Western), Siemens (Manchester) and the GCR Nottinghamshire to have a cab ride in the HST prototype 41001.
