A Farewell and Thank You
Dear Clare MCR,
One year has flown by and it is time for the MCR committee to pass the baton to a new group! Looking back it has been an incredible year! All of us have learned a lot about life in Cambridge, Clare College and most importantly, ourselves. Over the course of three terms this committee had become a wonderful team full of amazing characters and creativity. I am proud to name only a few achievements of our committee. On the social side, we have had several beautiful events, such as the Garden Party, the Great Clare Bake-Off, the trip to Westminster and of course an incredibly eventful Fresher’s Week. We had amazing theme formals from Harry Potter to Burn’s Night, which have excited Clare Catering and have surpassed all our expectations. My personal highlight was our Clareity Symposium which demonstrated the fascinating work of many of our very own Clare MCR members.
This MCR committee has also accomplished several forward-looking goals. We emphasised gender equality by implementing a gender neutral formal dress code, and we completed the Biodiversity study, putting us ahead of all other colleges. We strengthened our MCR’s identity by investigating the history of the MCR – which goes back as far as 1987. The results of our historical research can be found on our website. Most significantly, we enhanced the inclusiveness of our community by completing and approving a new constitution. The document manifests the importance of an inclusive society and stresses the democratic and transparent character of the MCR. It was due to the College’s support, mainly by the Master, Senior Tutor and Graduate Tutor and the Fellows, that the constitution was approved and successfully implemented. Finally, I am proud that, as a team, we have succeeded to achieve one of the most important goals of last year’s committee: Our MCR will stay for a considerable amount of time at its traditional place in Old Court. This of course means a lot to all of us and is the reason for continuous celebration!
The MCR committee has become a strong team over the last three terms. Seeing many committee members staying on, and also having fresh minds joining the committee, gives me lots confidence that good work will be done over the course of next year. I am convinced that Olly will be an amazing president and wish him as well as the new committee best of luck.
Thank you MCR, and MCR committee 2015-2016 for making it an unforgettable year! I hope to celebrate the successes of last year with as many of you as possible on 4th June at the Clare MCR Presidents Dinner.
All the best,
Anne
